Waste

Rethinking Waste. Creating Lasting Impact.

At Metropolis at Metrotown, waste reduction is an important part of responsible property management. Through practical recycling initiatives and partnerships that prioritize reuse, we continue to find ways to divert materials from landfills and make better use of existing resources.

From helping visitors sort their waste in our Food Courts to using reusable hoarding systems throughout the property, these initiatives demonstrate how thoughtful everyday practices can contribute to a more sustainable future.

Making Waste Reduction Part of Everyday Operations

Food Court Recycling

Since 2015, four organic recycling stations in our Food Courts have helped visitors sort their waste more responsibly. Customers can drop off their trays and separate materials into organics, plastics, paper, bottles and cans, and general waste.

This initiative makes recycling more accessible while helping divert organic materials for composting and encouraging better waste-sorting habits throughout the centre.

Reusable Hoarding Systems

Since 2018, our partnership with EZEE Hoarding has helped keep 192,104 pounds of waste out of landfills through the use of reusable, sustainable hoarding systems to conceal vacant retail spaces.

Rather than relying on conventional temporary hoarding materials, these reusable systems support a more resource-conscious approach to retail space presentation and help reduce waste generated during store transitions.

Measuring Our Progress

Our partnership with EZEE Hoarding has delivered measurable waste-reduction results year after year. The chart below highlights the annual pounds of waste eliminated through reusable hoarding systems.

2026 Year to Date: 12,456 Pounds of Waste Eliminated

As of August 12, 2026, our ongoing efforts have continued to reduce waste through reusable hoarding solutions.

Progress Through Practical Solutions

Waste reduction is an ongoing effort. By supporting responsible sorting, encouraging material recovery, and choosing reusable solutions where possible, Metropolis at Metrotown continues to identify practical ways to reduce waste and support more sustainable property operations.

EZEE Hoarding figures represent reported annual waste elimination through reusable hoarding systems. The 2026 figure is year to date as of August 12, 2026.
